Nature on Prescription

It’s fantastic to see social prescribing continuing in its journey of mainstream acceptance as hundreds of people experiencing poor mental health will be introduced to the natural beauty of wetlands under a “blue prescribing” scheme designed to help alleviate some of the symptoms and results of facing a mental health challenge.

Although data is still limited, there is increasing evidence showing that the results of being exposed to nature and natural environments can be beneficial for a person’s mental health and their wellbeing.

Recently, a pilot project working with a wetlands area showed that people who had been diagnosed with anxiety and/or depression had moved up a clinical mental health grade, from below average to average following their socially prescribed nature exposure.
